Greetings and welcome to my website. Here you can find information about myself and the projects that I am involved in. You can also find links to other webpages that feature my works or that I think are worth checking out. Enjoy!
A little about me:
I'm a native Seattleite, born September 11, 1982, and raised in the beautiful northwest state of Washington. I grew up in a Jewish home where I was exposed to spirituals at a young age. My musical endeavors began at the age of 6 on the cello. At 10 I began studying piano and at 12 I gave up the cello and took up the bass. This really marked the beginning of my explorations as an artist, under the guidance of Chuck Metcalf and Robert Knatt. Later, I played and toured around the USA and Europe with the acclaimed Garfield High School Jazz Ensemble under Clarence Acox. Since then, I have been blessed to be able to study and perform with many great musicians in the northwest and beyond (such as Randy Halberstadt, Buddy Cattlet, Doug Miller, Ray Brown, John Clayton, Mulgrew Miller, Michael White, Chuck Israels, Rashied Ali etc.). I earned my B.A. in cultural anthropology at Western Washington University in 2004. My love of music and of experiencing new cultures has led me around the world (at least I'm working on it...) both as a traveler and as a musician, including intensive studies of Cuban music and of Mandinke/Kora music of West Africa.
In 2004 I met Sifu Alexander Knight, a grand disciple of the late Grandmaster Chang Teng Sheng. I have since earned a black sash in kung fu, tai chi, shuai jiao, and iron mountain qi gong under the instruction of master Knight. My practice has allowed me to compete in shuai chiao tournaments around the USA and in Europe at the 10th International Martial Arts World Cup held in Milano, Italy 2005; and at the International Invitational Shuai Jiao Tournament in Taizhou, China, 2007.
In 2006, building on earlier experiences I began formal study of acupuncture and Chinese medicine at the Wu Hsing Tao School in Seattle, WA. In 2009, I graduated from WHTS and was awarded Diplomate status by the NCCAOM. I am a licensed East Asian Medicine Practitioner in Washington state. Please contact me via email about setting up an appointment. I am also available as an instructor of music (primarily piano and double and electric bass) and Chinese martial and healing arts. Currently I perform with a number of ensembles, primarily Picoso, Free World Jazz, Sasson, and Aesense of Time.
